Henne Strand 2021
Revisiting locations and shooting in different conditions
Another year and another trip to Henne Strand in Denmark. But this year the journey rather became a vacation under different circumstances. It was the fourth try to get to Denmark with my family. The times before it has always been cancelled due to Covid.
I was looking forward to show all the beautiful places that I discovered over the years to my kids and of course I couldn't wait to revisit my favourite locations for photography. But I wasn't sure if I could bring everything under one roof. We needed the first day to get into the groove but after that we were all enjoying the vacation to the fullest.
With regards to photography I had made up my mind to reshoot the locations from previous years but in different conditions. I either wanted to shoot at a different time of the day with different light or from a different angle. I was all lucky with the light throughout the vacation. I had beautiful sunrises and sunsets, dramatic clouds and even rain in the most photopraphy pleasing way.
Of all the precious memories from that trip I will probably keep three of them in particular in my mind forever. The first one was from seeing my kids having the time of their lifes while flying a kite at the beach. Especially my son had so much fun that only his decreasing arm strengh could make him stop flying the kyte. It was either that or his freezing father. The second one was that my daughter had her first ride out at the beach with full speed.
The third one was really special. There was one evening where my daughter agreed to join me on my beach photoshoot in the evening. We spend almost 2 hours at the beach witnessing the most spectacular sunset. And the best thing was that it wasn't only me who had fun. She had too. She was snapping with her smartphone, listend to my explanations and was even part of my compositions. We were shooting from the beginning of the golden hour until the end of the blue hour.
I can't think of anything better then having both my kids joining me on a hiking and photography trip one day.
Another beautiful part of trip was that my mother joined me and her grandchildren on that vacation. She hasn't been to the sea for a long time, so she really enjoyed breathing the fresh air, walking the endless beaches and hearing the waves crushing and the ocean rumbling while falling asleep at night.
Henne Strand becomes more important to me with every time I stay there. No matter I had a friend with me, a partner, my family or when I was all by myself, it always was one of the years highlights.
